A city stay can be a simple direct transfer
For a stay concentrated around Isla Verde, Condado or Old San Juan, compare the confirmed airport ride with your plans for the rest of the visit. Include hotel parking, rental pickup time and who will drive. No single option is best for every group.
An island-wide stay needs local mobility
A private transfer to Rincón, Ponce or a mountain lodge gets you to the confirmed address. It does not provide a car for meals and outings during the stay. Ask the hotel about realistic local options, or compare a rental for the dates when you will actually use it.
Compare the total cost
For a rental, check the complete quote, insurance arrangements, additional-driver terms, parking, toll handling and return process with the rental company. For a transfer, check group capacity, bags, child seats, stops and the return. A per-day rental headline and a whole-vehicle airport fare are different units.
A mixed plan can work
You might use a transfer on arrival and collect a rental later, or return a car before the last night. Confirm the rental branch, opening hours and handover method before planning a road pickup around it. An airport terminal and an off-site rental office may require separate meeting instructions.
Check airport and island differences
SJU, BQN, PSE, SIG and RVR are different airports. Vieques and Culebra also require a sailing or flight and separate island mobility. Do not assume that a mainland vehicle or rental agreement can simply continue across every leg.
